Police/Treadlightly Police Operation Strata and Trefil Quarry
Following waymarking of the iconic route ‘Strata Florida’ by Green Lane Association volunteers in conjunction with Ceredigion and Powys County Council, a joint operation was set up with Dyfed-Powys Police and Green Lane Association volunteers.
Volunteers vehicles were used to avoid the obvious presence of the Police on the ground plus the Police helicopter. In addition an officer from Kent Police was present as an observer of the methods being used in Mid Wales to overcome illegal offroading.
On Strata, the operation was highly successful. Several non road legal motor bikes and a non road legal 4x4 were apprehended after a group were found camping for the weekend in the forest without permission! Trefil Quarry was problematic with the sheer amount of open land making it difficult to catch offenders on motor bikes without number plates, even with a helicopter. It helped develop alternative tactics for future operations.
